fear of pain and the natural course of things
spent several hours today in the hospital waiting on the outcome of my mother's knee replacement surgery. She made it through despite her fragile health thankfully and just has to ride out a few more days to make sure there isn't any dangerous complications due to her other health problems. Oddly enough, or maybe not....I'm not sure....her surgery was done just down the hall from the maternity/birthing area of the hospital. So while I was waiting around I got to talk to a lot of expectant grandparents and extended family members waiting as well to hear about the new addition. Out of the 5 families chatting, 4 of the delivering mothers were in for scheduled c-section deliveries.....

this new phenomenon just bothers me.

some things just shouldn't be fit into a timetable and been seen as something potentially inconveinient in it's natural form, it's right on par with the baby gene designing issue in my opinion

Chaos is natural and all good things in life are inconvenient.

Well it depends why they are doing it. Me and my brothers and sisters were all C-sections, not by choice for the first two but after going through a full day of labour with nothing hapening you don't really want to try for future children I suppose. I don't think having a huge scar on your belly and problems with muscles in that area is really convienent. I'm really scared I'll have to get one.

oh I'm not against c-sections for safety/health reasons. I'm talking about the women who have no medical reason to get one, scheduling one in as soon as they find out they're pregnant and have the option.

I know what you mean, just to clarify, I meant that sometimes its because of a family or personal history that woman go straight for the c-section. I vaguely remember hearing that some hospitals insist on them if you have had them in the past for fear of being sued if there is a problem otherwise. Not sure if that was here or the US.

when i was younger i used to think i would want one because it would be less painful.
then i realized that isn't neccessarily true. also the scar factor.
also who knows if i'm even ever gonna have kidlings.

but yeah...it is weird that ppl are like "ok pencil me in for October 2nd, 8:09pm, k thanks"

freaks.

Although it is still forbidden here in germany. I love the idea of baby gene designing, because it will take the place of evolution. I mean there was not that much evolution during the last 50 years so gene design is one chance of enhancement.
